| The H-Division Materials Data Group is responsible for delivering equation of state (EOS) data to the hydrodynamic code groups at LLNL. The Stockpile Stewardship Program has created a demand for accurate, wide-range EOS data for a long list of materials, including metals, salts, plastics, gases, rocks, and explosives. The data group maintains both EOS physics codes as well as data libraries and library access codes. We continually collect experimental data on materials of interest to LLNL programs as well as ideas for improved EOS models. Much of this information comes directly from the H-Divsion experimental and theory groups, but also from continuing surveys of the condensed matter research literature. We use our physics codes to fit experimental data and to generate wide-range EOS tables. These tables are installed in large data libraries. Library access software then allows hydrocode users to read out EOS data for the materials and functions desired, and to interpolate the tables for the numbers needed by the codes as they run. Our objective is to provide EOS data with the maximum accuracy, smoothness, and consistency, and at the highest possible computational efficiency. |
