The Babar experiment is designed to measure parity violation in B meson decays through assymetric collisions of electrons and positrons at the SLAC PEP-II B-factory. Precise measurements of CP violations will shed light on the origin of matter anti-matter asymmetry.

LLNL was a member of the tri-lab consortium that designed and built the B-factory, and the High Energy Physics Group at LLNL led the design and construction of Resistive Plate Chambers (RPC). Currently the group is leading the effort to measure the J/psi Klong decay, and important channel for measuring the sin(2 beta) mixing angle.
