Peter Eggleton is a physicist in the Institute for Geophysics and Planetary Physics, and also in V Division. His current work is in computational astrophysics, in particular in the Djehuty project, a project to model stellar interiors (right up to the photosphere) in 3 dimensions. This project uses laboratory-generated code that includes hydrodynamics, radiative transport, nuclear physics and an accurate equation of state. Eggleton obtained an MA in Mathematics in (1957-1961) and a BSc in Physics (1957-1962) from the University of Edinburgh (UK), and a PhD (1962-1965) in Astrophysics from the University of Cambidge (UK). After 2 years as a Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of York, UK, he rejoined Cambridge as a post-doctoral researcher, and later joined the Faculty as Assistant Director of Research, then Senior Lecturer and then Reader. He moved to LLNL in 2000 to join the Djehuty project. Eggleton's work has mainly been on the structure and evolution of stars, particularly binary and (recently) triple and higher multiple systems.
